There is a mathematical formula linked to the number of guitars one needs: +1

"For me a key to 'happiness' - or perhaps satisfaction is a better term - has always been to have good enough guitars that nothing else I play is going to inspire me more."

Well said. If you are settling for a guitar you can afford over the one you really want, you will only be satisfied for a short time and will eventually want the real deal. Get the real deal the first time around even if it cost you more.

With that said, I've got at least a dozen guitars on my wish list, which is unending.

This could be a possible answer.

Learning to play well, so that playing is really a satisfying experience, that adds to my happiness -- well, to my sense of well-being. Having a good enough guitar that this playing experience is really enjoyable -- that also adds to my sense of well-being.

But there are many things in my life that are much more important than music or guitars. Fortunately, I have been fortunate enough in life that there is room for music and guitars. I'm grateful for that.

Because we are all empty inside. We have weird shaped voids that only small jumbos, grand concerts, auditoriums, etc. can fill.

I think that's why Im always selling and buying new guitars. I always get really nice guitars that I can afford at the moment but not THE ONE that I like the most. The problem is that THE ONE usually costs MUCH MUCH MUCH MORE

it is the letdown after the thrill of the find and purchase. not to say the guitar is bad, but it is mainly about the thrill and anticipation!

Because there are many different styles of playing. Sometimes you feel like Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and sometimes you feel like James Taylor. All guitars play the same notes, but not of them play or sound the same playing the same songs.....but the real reason.......I'M GREEDY.

With electrics, a Les Paul and a Strat is all I'll ever need - my GAS is gone. Acoustics are another story. I'm happy with the Taylor, but I still havn't found the perfect beater. The right FGXXXs hasn't appeared on Craigslist yet. I've had so many <$100 guitars come and go, but still have not found "the one".

When you come to the realization that "things" do not make you happy then you learn to appreciate what you do have.

I always felt that way up to the point of the last two guitars I bought. The Olson and Goodall scratched the itch for me. I still look and pester the spousal unit for $$$$ to buy another but for all practical purposes I'm good.

Sounds like a question you should ask your therapist.

Dont sweat it, it means you are human. It is good to want good things in life. You were given the gift of life for a reason and it was not to deny yourself pleasure and things that make you happy. There is no prize at the end of your life for depriving yourself of things. Your gift is supposed to be enjoyed along the way.

At some point u will begin to feel 'tired' and learn to appreciate the guitars you have and make wiser choice in getting THE guitar.
I am still learning to know what I really like too.
