What Is your go-to pick(s?)
What do you like and where do you buy them?
I use a thumb pick or flat, depending on what I’m playing. I can’t find a pick of either type that I love. I like the Dunlop Tortex for a flat pick, but I cannot find a thumb pick that I’m crazy about. I’ve tried Black Mountain’s hybrid, but like most hybrids it is only tolerable as a thumb or flat pick. The blue Chip pick designed by JD Crowe (I think) is ok. I’d like to see the Blue Chip or something like it with a wooden pick surface instead of plastic. AFAIK such a thing doesn’t exist. |

I have the blue Chip pick designed by JD Crowe and (I think) a BCT. The Crowe is a tighter fit and louder, the BCT has a little longer pick and has a prettier, slightly more mellow sound to my ear.
These are the most comfortable, best sounding thumb picks I've found, but I don't expect to find one that I absolutely love. I've tried most. The TAD-40 flat pick is my go to.

Acoustic guitar Blue Chip TP48-1R (triangle with one rounded corner 1.21mm)
Electric guitar Fender 451 Extra Heavy Celluloid (small teardrop 1.14mm) But I have many, many other Blue Chip, Wegen, Celluloid and misc. picks that I might use on any given day. The above two are the ones that work best in the long run.

After trying all kinds of picks, I have settled on Gravity picks. I currently go between using the acrylic .90 and 1.1 thickness, standard size and shape. I just bought some new ones and Gravity included one from the Gold series, and I like that too. I can't see spending $35+ for a pick. Thalia sent me a wooden pick, but I am not very fond of it.

Some of you might think my choice is odd, but they work really, really well for me. . . . The Dava nylon "control pick". The design is pretty creative, it thins out in the middle so it gives you the ability to adjust the flexibility of the pick by modifying your grip. A tad closer to the top and you get a stiff pick, back off towards the middle a bit and you get a more flexible pick.
Of course. . . that choice could change by tomorrow (or even the end of today). I also have Wegens, John Pearse casein, Gravity, V-Pick, and a ton of others and a lot of it depends on my mood, but I keep coming back to these (to the point where when I saw a pack of 100 of them, I bought it on impulse). |

Used to be a plain old Fender Medium but have nice graduated to a Dunlop Gator Grip green (1.5mm). Doesn't slip out of my hand and I can finally control the heavier gauge with a light hand.

Thanks. You’ve given me several to check out.
What thumb pick would you say has a tighter attack? I know many to most guitar players prefer a mellowed sound, but I like the tighter pop sound. |

I use Charmed Life picks. I love all of the models I have and, the iridescence (Inlayed MOP Shamrock) is my favorite "thick" 2mm pick.
I love the variety of choices Scott makes and I use them all depending on my mood, the music, and what type of tone I am seeking. I have learned to 3D print picks too. They provide yet another type of tone. I can print them in any thickness and I want using a variety of material. I am going to try to print one out of TPU which is just like rubber. It will probably provide a very warm sound. lol I printed a special run of picks for the owners of the Larrivee Forum VI guitar that was just delivered to all of us a couple of months ago. The owners all seem to enjoy them. |

Blue Chip CT-55 is my favorite and my go-to. I have three of them. I buy them mostly here, used. I also have a TAD40 and TAD601R, also purchased here used.
