I have had similar "shaking my head" experiences with the Baby Taylor. The sound of them were barely up to other entry level guitars. But in all honesty, Taylors for me have always been inconsistent. One model would sound great and another same model would sound completely different.
I have played some very nice Eastmans!... They are making great Archtop's that aren't priced out of reach and their acoustic's are also very nice!.
