First nut repair.

The nut broke away outside my low e string. It is not a very expensive guitar so I decided to fix it myself. Went to the local music store to get a replacement nut. Oh no!....guitars everywhere! I did make it out purchasing only the nut and strings. After an hour of sanding, filing and measuring it came out pretty good. I do have more respect for luthiers now.

I'm comfortable re-gluing a bridge, making my own bone saddles, changing tuners and pins but I leave the nut to the pro's.
I did one on a $50 kit guitar that worked out OK but wouldn't even try it on anything else so I really congratulate you, they're not easy to get right.

What did you use to cut the nut slots?

Cut nut slots...hahahah. I went over the nuts on hand (all pre slotted). Found the one with the best match and went from there. It is bone and surprisingly easy to work with.
