Is that Alzheimer's remark just for fun or is there some merit to it. Do you feel if it keeps your mind engaged you might avoid the disease. Sorry for the question but my mom seems to have become afflicted and the Doctors do not agree on cause or help.

Default WHY do you play Guitar?

To be creative, express emotions, play songs that mean a lot to me, to relax and lastly, because it is fun!

Pleasure.
Relaxing
Achievement
Good for brain,as it has to learn new skills and patterns with every new tune.
Staves off dementia....
Better than doing crossword puzzles-but I do liken it to doing jigsaw puzzles,as every piece slowly comes together to make a beautiful tune.
(Sorry,post is a bit lengthy)

I was going to say something about the mental challenge and to ward off Alzheimer's. Not sure if it helps or not. The jury is still out, but it can't hurt to do something mentally challenging to keep your mind fresh. I find this guitar thing a great mental workout and very satisfying when something "clicks". The last two generations on my Dad's side have had this disease and I am willing to try anything to help ward it off.

Nourished by beautiful sounds

(not suggesting that characterizes my playing but in spite of my playing the guitar sounds lovely)
