Default NGD: A Ben Wilborn custom

I had searched for some time to find a guitar that met all my wants and had close calls but nothing ticked all the boxes. Aging always brings on certain discomforts and I wanted to address a couple things. Late last year Ben Wilborn signed on as a sponsor and I got in touch with him about building a guitar for me. Things worked out great and below is the completed build. Ben was awesome to work with. Very informative and passively helpful when needed. His work is superb and though I've checked and cannot find any flaws on this guitar. I highly recommend contacting him if you're in the market for a build.

I had Ben build his Lion model for me. I went with EIR body and cedar soundboard. The body of the Lion is 14" and it's just the size I wanted. I asked for a 24.9" scale, 12 fret to the body, slim carve neck similar to Taylor with a 1 & 13/16" nut. The fingerboard and headstock are bound. Arm bevel and players port. It came out perfect. And the added benefit of the sound port is that "new guitar smell" drifts right up to my olfactory senses.

The waist on the Lion body is moved a bit forward so this moves the guitar a little more towards the center of my body as I sit. This combined with the short scale definitely addressed my shoulder discomfort.

Ben's work is exceptional and the sound of this guitar is wonderful. I'm very happy with this build and working with Ben was great.

Enjoy these pics. I'm digging this guitar though I'm not worthy. But maybe someday.

Thumbs up !

Very pretty back. Cedar/Rosewood is a combo I'd like to have.

One of the things I like best about Ben's guitars is the tone.

...and then there is everything else that is great.

Wow, that is nicely done. I like the subtle cutaway. A 12 fret really needs one and this one is done perfectly. Play it for us sometime. Enjoy it.

I've written to Ben to see if he can post or will send me his video he made of this guitar. It's on his website though, just scroll down a short bit.

Congrats on the new guitar! What a beauty! Really like the cutaway on that one and the arm bevel. Some great playing in that video. Welcome to the club - still really enjoying my new Wilborn guitar, too.

BTW: Here's a link to his video on Facebook. (I wish he'd put his videos on YouTube also.)
