Avalon L32 Legacy - valuation
Hi everyone,
This is my first post as a registered user, have been reading for many years. I'm trying to get a value of my guitar. its an Avalon Legacy L32 Legacy. A pretty early one as far as i can tell serial number L-000487. I was given the guitar for some work that I did in a way of payment. But don't really have an idea of its value. I looked at the Avalon website, and last retail price was £2870, but i'm aware the second hand price wont be the retail price. Any help would be appreciated. Its an absolutely stunning guitar, I haven't fallen in love with a guitar as much since my very first one! Such a shame they have now stopped production. Sad times! |

Hi Jim
Sad indeed that we have lost a major quality guitar brand and seen the break up of a team of fabulously gifted craftsmen. Avalon guitars were quite heavily discounted in recent years. There is this new one currently on UK ebay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Avalon-L32...item4ab7aae6e4 I would reckon you are likely to get around £1,000 - £1,100, depending on condition. There is a school of thought that says that prices will go up, long-term, as Avalons become rarer. If it were me, I would hang on yo it and get continued pleasure from the playing. I hope this helps. |

I bought one here on the Acoustic Guitar Forum with a few upgrades for around $2,000 U.S.. I saw one other being offered for $1,800 or $1,900 a while back.
It's really hard to come up with an estimated price for a L32 used. There aren't that many out there and used ones don't seem to get sold a lot. I would second thegreypicker's thought that you should consider holding on to it. It's a buyer's market right now, and the L32's are a lot of guitar for the money you could get for it. |

Kind of resurrecting an old thread, but I got lucky the other day at Guitar Center here in Vegas. Was just playing and having fun and I saw an Avalon Legacy L-32 on the used wall. What an amazing guitar!! It wasn't that much money and I worked them down a bit. Did some research on them. They're basically built by the old Lowden Factory people, is that right? Any information y'all have is appreciated. I've had it in a bunch of tunings and that thing SINGS!! Here's a couple of crappy photos:
What a great bargain!! These guitars are SUPER high quality!!

Please note it's an old thread - Avalon did have difficulties back in 2012 until a solution was found.

The top on yours has really darkened compared to my L32C, which is a 2010 build. Enjoy playing your new acquisition! |

As Avalon dealer Bill knows what he is talking about.
Recent years Avalon guitars became much more restrictive about who sells their guitars and the quality is in my opinion at a very high level. There is no more production in Asia as far as I know. Every guitar has some new innovation. Customer service is outstanding! My oldest guitar is an Avalon baritone spalted maple. I will cherish this guitar for long time to come.

Just to clarify - Avalon stopped producing it's lower cost Silver Series years ago, and brought all of it's guitar building home to the shop in Newtownards, Northern Ireland. That lower cost Silver Series line was produced in Korea. All Avalons have been built in NI for at least the past nine years now. Anyone with questions about any Avalon, please drop me a line! -Bill-

To be honest, I have nothing to add regarding the value of the OP's L32 but I do own an Avalon A2-20 and I am a very happy customer of Bill's. Why am I such a happy customer of Bill's? Because he is the one who put the A2-20 in my hands.
I have owned and appreciated the following guitars: - a Seagull S6 Original - an Alvarez MD70 - a Martin D-18 - a Larrivee L-03R - a Kronbauer TDK - a Martin 000-18 All wonderful guitars that I enjoyed very much but not one of them came close to the enjoyment and ease of play of my Avalon A2-20, for me. In addition, the Martins, the Larrivee and the Kronbauer were all wonderfully made and beautiful instruments, the Kronbauer being a hand-made guitar. The Avalon is not only beautifully handcrafted but it's construction is impeccable and very light and responsive. I could not be happier with it and consider myself truly blessed to own it. I will post a very belated new guitar day very soon. I've just been too busy with this guitar and life to have had a chance to take photographs of it. Thanks again Bill! I NEVER thought I would have the opportunity to own a guitar of this quality and you made my dream come true. Rob |

Thanks, Bill and everyone for the feedback. I continue to enjoy this guitar. I am amazed at the versatility and balanced quality of this instrument. Is there any website or list for dating these guitars. The Avalon website says to contact them directly, and I will do that. Just thought there might be an easier way.
p.s. - Rob, it's about time you posted some photos of that L2-20!!
