Default Am I destined to be another Willie?

Spent another 2 hours in the local music store, playing Godin's Peppinio D'Agostino (sp?), a performer series with a really wide neck (good). I realize it was tight, but when I pulled out my crusty trusty Seagull Folk, there was no comparison. My Seagull sounded like it was amped by comparison...once again I walk away without buying. This story has been going on for nearly 20 years.
My Seagull was a pre-production unit sent to the Halifax Folk music store as a demo back in 1988, I traded for it and it was my only guitar until 2001 when I bought a Danelectro for under $100.
The picture doesn;t show the hole which has now developed under the sound hole. Unfortunatley, it actually IMPROVED the sound, so I couldn;t use it as an excuse to buy.
I guess I'm stuck with this thing for the rest of my life. I think it was $200 I paid for it.

Seagulls are great guitars... and being another Willie might not be such a bad thing either.

Nice to have a guitar that your happy with isn't it?

I just hope that Seagull doesn't end up sounding like Trigger. With the greatest of respect for Willie, I think Trigger sounds awful.

You heard me. This has nothing to do with Willie's playing, it's the guitar that doesn't sound good to me. Willie was on an episode of Monk a while back, and at the end he was playing Trigger without amplification, and it sounded terrible. I never cared for the amplified tone, either, but that's more a matter of the pickup, which sounds like an old style piezo UST.

It sounds like a nylon string guitar played with a pick. I love Willie but I've never been crazy about his tone. It's kinda "plinky" to my ear.

I wish they still aired Plinky and the Brain (narf!).

(Yeah, I know it's not Plinky)

So let's get this straight, you've got a hole in your guitar and your forum name is MeatHooks. Hmmmm....

Seriously, the Seagull is a great guitar. Dave MacIsaac's Seagull Grand is starting to look like yours, but he still picks the he77 out of it.

I would never part with that guitar if I were you.
