Default NGD Larivee 000-40 12 Fret

In a previous post I was looking for a smaller than Dreadnought sized guitar to play Bluegrass on. I have some shoulder issues and I can't play a dread. I wanted a guitar that was loud enough to be heard..... I got the Larivee 000-40 12 fret with a spruce top and mahogany back and sides.

The fit and finish are excellent. As good as the higher end Martins and Taylors that I have. I will note that the finish is a matt finish and is not shiny at all.

Wow! I am amazed that it sounds much bigger than it is. The bass is very full and projects very well. The tone is also very balanced between the strings. I am impressed.

I had not played a 12 fret before and was concerned that it might feel somewhat short. To my surprise it felt very similar to my Taylor GC. It is actually almost the same size as the Taylor GC although the Larivee is about an 1" wider at the lower bout and maybe an inch longer body. Because the Larivee is the longer 25.5 scale and the Taylor is short scale 24.8 the nut is almost exactly in the same place. The neck did not feel much different than my Martins or Taylors.

I have to go play my new guitar now!

I'm considering a OOO-40 next. My D-40 just causes too much pain.

Your username is spot on given you have a wonderful new 000-40 12 fret to play . I just looked at some pics online and it looks great. Gotta love smaller sized guitars with big sounds. Congrats and Enjoy!

Congratulations! I was looking at an SD-40, but unfortunately was not able to get to the shop to play it. I'm intrigued with Larrivee as a builder. I'll find one someday..

Congrats. Larrivees are great guitars. I've got a combined ~35 years between two Larrivees (L09 & D19), and they're both outstanding. Glad that 000-40 meets/exceeds your needs. PS: love 12 frets!

Congrats, to me the 12 fret 000 is the best acoustic design ever. Basically the sound of a dread in a small package. I've been wanting to play and get one of those Larrivee's but the shops up here are empty.
