PRS SE A40E or similar (sub $1,000)?
Hey all- The female vocalist in my band (modern country) is looking to upgrade from her Yamaha acoustic-electric. She asked me about the PRS SE A40E. Anyone have experience with this guitar? They look great on paper and sound good in the clips I’ve heard.
Seagull Maritime SWS CH CW QT? Any other options and/or better buy for the $? Looking to stay in the sub-$1,000 range. Thanks- Last edited by lpaul626; 02-16-2022 at 06:33 AM. |

If she's looking for an upgrade, a Furch or even a Yamaha AC3/AC5R or M would be great. |

PRS is a beautiful looking guitar. I find them easy to play. Neck is big. They seem to be quite overbuilt. What model Yamaha does she have? The Yamaha AC 3 & 5 series are nice. The Alvarez Masterworks series are impressive in their price range, MF60OM. Had I to choose between the PRS and Seagull, I would go Seagull.

It’s an APX500 which she bought new. Top’s cracked etc. and she’s realized it’s time for an upgrade.

The thin neck on the APX series would probably rule out the PRS and its chunky neck profile. The Yamaha AC series would be my first venture. Check out Takamine as well. They are known for their "plug and play" guitars.

What about a Taylor 100 series, 114 or 110? It is a layered or laminated back but fits the budget.
