Default Change from Light to Light/Medium strings

I've been using Light/Medium Elixirs (12-56) on my dreadnought for years. I just bought an OM that came with Light (12-53) strings.
Do you think it would be safe to use the Light/Medium strings on the OM? And are the slots in the nut likely to be big enough to accept the relatively small incease in string gauge?
Thank you.........................Dave

Yep!

That's a small change - don't see an issue. You'll find out if it needs a tweak after you've changed the strings and they've settled.

When the mood strikes me I switch between 12-53 and 12-56 on three of my guitars with no issues.

Hi Dave, I wouldn't have any worries about trying those strings. Let us know if you prefer the tone.

Is it for your Mackenzie & Marr?

Hi Dave, -- Yes and Yes. You may need to adjust the truss rod a bit. I use 12/56 on my pair of Taylors and it fills out the sound nicely. Enjoy!

Thank you all. I really didn't think there would be a problem. I was just eager to hear other opinions. And I was feeling a bit lonely. Thank you AGF!
I think, as with most guitars that I've had, a good setup maybe a righteous complimant to this guitar, so I can have the nut checked at that time. Also I would like the action a tad lower, but that's just me. I don't fingerpick, but I am a light strummer and picker.

Yes Dru, you are correct. First of all, I had my mind set on a cedar top, preferably with a mahogany body. They're hard to come by. Who wouldn't want a Martin or some other high-end guitar, but the Mackenzie & Marr guitar had all the features I was looking for, and at $1000, the price was right. Up here, in The Great White North, a Martin would have ranged between $2160 to $3640 by comparison, without a cedar top. And a Taylor only had four models, all with cut-outs, which I don't need. The M&M is designed in Montreal, assembled in China, and purchased on-line with a 7-day, no questions asked, money back guarantee, including shipping. Hence the lower price.
I've only had the guitar for a week, but I've been playing it quite a bit, and so far it feels, and sounds, like just what I wanted. It's got a forward braced, Red Cedar top, so there's lots of volume and depth. I could go on and on. Maple bindings everywhere, abalone inlays, Grover gold tuners, rosewood board and bridge, bone nut and saddle. A very well constructed, and finished guitar. First released in 2010, with a 10th anniversary limited edition released last year, it's got a ton of very positive owner reviews, and it looks really nice too.
I gotta stop! Thanks again everyone.................Dave

You might wanna try Martin MA545 SP Phosphor Bronze Light/Medium. They come in exactly between light and medium in half guages; 12.5, 16.5, etc.
