Default Doyle Dykes and Jim Olson

I was privileged to hear Doyle Dykes at a concert Saturday night. What a show and a wonderful guy. He was playing a brand new guitar built by a local luthier George Bowen. It was a made with Brazilian rosewood and and a 600 year old spruce top. The top was salvaged from the Frauenkirche Cathedral in Munich which was bombed in WW2. The spruce came from one of the roof trusses.
It sounded amazing.

Jim Olson ( yes THAT Jim Olson) was there as a personal friend of the builder. I had a great conversation with Jim too. He is the nicest, most humble man.

Doyle Dykes shows that guitar here, accompanied by George Bowen and James Olson:

And talks about it here, beginning at around the 26:19 mark (by the way, if you are at all offended by overt religious content, don't go here):

Sunday String-Along, 4.7.24 (“Supporting One Another”)

That is so cool! Glad you got to hear him, he's an amazing guitarist and genuinely nice guy.

It was cool that he was able to play my guitar recently; but it might be even cooler to be in the presence of both Doyle Dykes and Jim Olson -

Yes, George Bowen and his son Andy are friends of mine. I saw the guitar come together over quite a few months in their garage workshop. As time went on and George could no longer work, Andy came along to assist and eventually took the guitar to Jim Olson for some help. Now Andy want to continue his dad’s legacy and keep building guitars. It’s quite a moving story.
