It's very nice.
Good action, comfortable to hold. Doesn't sound anywhere near as shoe-box-y as most archtops. Maybe a little bit down on the e-string near the nut, but not bad. I haven't plugged it in yet, because I mostly just play around home at my desk or on the sofa. I like it. Nice addition to my Emerald family. The important thing is I finally figured out how to embed pictures.

Very tasty. That’s pretty much exactly how I would order one - or will, when the time comes

I do like the amber. My X20-7 had an amber top and headstock facing, with black carbon back and sides. It’s a lovely looking instrument, which Tony (above) now gets to enjoy when he can pull himself away from his synths

Congratulations on your new Kestrel. If I’m not mistaken, it was originally my guitar and you are now the third owner. I had swapped out the original bridge for a Graphtech Resomax bridge, which is what the photo appears to show, if I’m not mistaken. I also believe that it just might sport the TI Swing series flat wounds that I had strung it with.
I had also gone with the amber carbon fiber for the aesthetic reasons stated above. It’s a great guitar but I eventually ended up getting The Loar LH-700 in its place in order to scratch my itch for a pre-bop acoustic swing rhythm instrument. I did find that, depending on what sound you were going for, the voice of the Kestrel was very much affected by the types of strings used (e.g., phosphor bronze round wounds or TI flat wounds, in each case of varying string gauges). Anyway, I’m thrilled to see that the Kestrel has found a place in a good home. I wish you many years of musical enjoyment. Last edited by esimms86; 05-18-2024 at 06:28 PM. |
