"The Water is Wide" yes, I'll check out that arrangement. The studio version from Karla Bonoff has the most amazing harmonies on the final verse with James Taylor and J.D. Souther. Just stunning.

James Taylor, Gordon Lightfoot, Jim Croce, Paul Simon...sometimes the Beatles...I like to memorize these songs; I think I do a better job when I can play them from the heart...
Similar vocal range/similar material - I still have enough first-tenor register left (and I'm beginning to get my falsetto back - long story...) to pull off some '50s/'60s R&R (used to do a fairly credible Roy Orbison/Jay and the Americans back when); also do lots of Neil Diamond deep cuts, Cat Stevens, Irish, neo-trad folk (Dramtreeo, Schooner Fare, Stan Rogers, etc.), a couple originals, a few parody songs, maybe a Rat Pack/American Songbook tune or two I still remember from my jazz days. BTW, I'm with you 100% on the vocal vs. instrumental thing - the only ones who really give a hoot are other musicians (and their SO's) - and the only two I still keep in my regular rotation are a Chet-style original and a crosspicked 12-string version of "Classical Gas" ...
