Default Lyrics that made you go "huh?"

I never could figure out what they were singing in one line from the song "Highwayman". I had to look it up.

"I went aloft and furled the main sail in a blow."

Yellow Ledbetter by Pearl Jam... The band admitted years later that that the song was recorded with Eddie Vedder scat singing with no well-refunded lyrics (although a few phrases do make sense) that's part of why it never became an album cut.... but on the b-side (I miss b-sides) of Jeremy the song became a huge hit for them.

Now there are lyrics for it, but live Eddie Vedder changes it up often keeping with the spirit of it not having set lyrics.

"The Pompatus of Love" from Space Cowboy by Steve Miller. Apparently he just made up the word and it means nothing. ....Mike

"MacArthur Park" Beautiful song but it has some strange lyrics that most people can't fathom. "Someone left the cake out in the rain"... etc.

A Horse with No Name.

1. "The heat was hot and the ground was dry"

The heat was hot? Really???? It usually is.

2.'"Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain"

For to give you no pain? Huh?

The Beatles. Hello!

"The movement you need is on your shoulder."

"...and a butter pie. A butter pie? The butter wouldn't melt so they put it in the pie." (okay, that's Paul)

And so on...

I love the song Still...You Turn Me On by ELP, but in the verse:

Quote:
Every day a little sadder
A little madder
Someone get me a ladder
I always cringe a bit on that last line. It just seems like something that was stuck in there as a placeholder that they never got around to fixing.

I always thought it was Hooka Tooka my soda cracker?

As in, who took?

Not that that suddenly makes everything sensible, but it helps a bit, maybe.

Ah, you could be right. A bit of research found this version on The Mudcat Cafe (Mudcat.org)

Hooka, tooka , soda cracker,
Does your mama chew tobacker?
If your mama chew tobacker,
Hooka, tooka soda cracker.

the website states "The followin version was copyrighted in 1961 by Len Chandler and Robert Kaufman"

NOW , it all makes sense...

I think he came up with it while ripping off another artist:

How about the majority of the YES catalog? Jon Anderson admitted that he painted with words basically as thought-catchers to create images in the listeners minds. They do that, indeed, but upon examination they often make no logical sense. Oh, well, sometimes it is better not to know.
