Default NGD- Recording King RP1-626-C

Well it's a NGD as well as a day without a new guitar. Recently I had purchased a new Martin 000-15M that I had been gassing for 15 years for. Well it ended up really aggravating my issues from RA and Carpal Tunnel and it had to go back. Heart breaker, but I have to live in reality. The same store stocks Recording King guitars and I purchased a new RP1-626-C with a case.

I'm loving that cutaway. I thought it would have a significant effect on the sound but when both cutaway iteration and non-cutaway were played back to back I found that whatever marginal difference I sensed between the two was worth the payoff for improved fret access. I have to admit there were a couple of fit/finish concerns and a ding or two I wasn't able to detect in the store's light. I also wasn't able to see the beautiful grain of the Engelmann spruce top either as well as other details of the solid woods.

I also own a Blueridge BR-341 and I can't help but to compare the two guitars some. Necks- while the RK has a rounded and relatively deep "V" shape the Blueridge sports a more mellow and somewhat wider C shape, yet still has a bit of depth to it. The Blueridge is built for speed and I like to just aimlessly noodle for extended periods, sharpening my chops along the way. The RK begs for fun strumming and some finger style, and I find myself playing full songs on this to hear the beautiful highs and surprising bass it has for me. I tried a 00-28VS sitting next to the RK and while the Martin had a bit less string buzz the general tone was very familiar. I didn't think they would be as close as they were but that comparison helped secure the sale.

I'm really impressed with the Recording King in a way I didn't think I would be. I'm excited to own this guitar and better get back to it actually. I'll add some shots in a bit.

Congratulations on your new RK. I was very tempted by a used non cutaway RP1-626 for sale on this or another forum but shied away having never played one. Enjoy!

Agreed! Congrats.... The 0-size models are a joy to play and own. They also have a new "Torrefied" cut-away that looks promising.

Once the neck gets comfy, it will surprise you how much you grab for it 1st when working on material! The couch becomes the studio!

OK more time spent with this guitar and the excitement has only increased. I know when I have a guitar that suits me when I just get right to work with it, and that's what happened here. I immediately started working on 4 new song and I've been perfecting them since, including rewriting arrangements, fingerings, etc. And though I've played for decades my finger tips are sore and bruised from over playing. I love this Recoding King guitar.

The top is so beautiful, and wonderfully tight. I played a lot of guitars looking for something like this, and the closest I came was the Taylor Big Baby, which is an excellent guitar. But this one had a bit more going on in the midrange, and being a long time electric player that preferred Les Pauls and Telecasters, the single cutaway is very familiar to me. In comparison the Blueridge I have is mellow, and actually sounds to my ear like a cross between a parlor and a classical, nylon strings and all. That mellowness can be very sweet though, and I'm still very glad I bought that guitar as it's going to turn into my camping/family get-together/playing out guitar once I get a pickup put in it.

The RP1-626-C is a fairly bright guitar, well represented in the mid range and, surprisingly, lower frequencies also. This guitar just has it. The Blueridge has better QC, but I much prefer the musicality of the RK.

Thanks! I saw something on their Torrefied guitars. If it's a legit science then I might creep up on one to see what the deal is.
And yeah I just play that one mostly these days, yup, on the couch.

Thanks Dave! I'm still loving this thing. Here's a vid of an old ditty.

Still my favorite acoustic, still not looking at other acoustic guitars, still in bliss. I wish I could put this neck on all my guitars.

Isn't this the Eric Schoenberg designed model that has a 1 7/8" neck width?

Yes and no. It has a 1 3/4ths nut. I bought one of the original batch from Eric Schoenberg's shop. Sold it recently but I really enjoyed that guitar for years. Congratulations to the KasperT.

Thanks. I actually resurrected an old thread but just wanted to revisit and say I'm still thrilled with it. In acoustic jams it cuts fairly well. Mine is also from Eric's shop. It's just an excellent match for me and what I like/need from an acoustic right now. Perfect fit.
