Not the GS-mini . . . . unless you plan on playing guitars of that scale most of the time.
I'd learn on something with a more "normal" scale . . . . between 24.5" to 25.5" The 23.5" is just short enough that it can cause problems when switching to other guitars of a longer scale length. As to the dreadnought or GA body style, I would base that on which feels more comfortable to you when playing it sitting down. Most people would opt for the GA (114), IMO. |

I'd not pay that for one. Particularly, with my love of played in guitars. Not to mention "played in" prices.

As a beginner I would stay away from the mini because of the medium strings. Harder on the fingers. You can string with med lights and they still sound good but I don't think lights do justice to the mini. I think any of the 100 series is great for a beginner. As is also the Big Baby...it may not look as cool without a cutaway but it's not very much money, sounds good and is easy to play.

You will get more for your money with an Eastman, Yamaha, Seagull, Crafter, Blueridge, Sigma etc etc... but an entry level Taylor is certainly a decent enough guitar for a beginner if that's what you want.
Don't let anyone tell you that an entry level Taylor is more guitar than you need to start out, it would also make a nice beater or travel guitar if you decide to pick up something a little nicer further down the road. One of my mates just bought a Collings D3 as his first guitar (can't even play a D chord) solely because he "liked the look of it" so its all relative! I certainly wouldn't advocate this approach but he certainly has a nice guitar to start out with and can't blame his tools! Good luck!
