Default 4v4ce vs 414ce Spring Limited

I am going to look at a 414ce SLTD tomorrow and was wondering how it compares to the standard 414ce. I have read the specs and will get to play one firsthand, but was wondering what those of you who have both think about them.

Which spring limited? 2014? 2013?

If you are talking 2014 that is easy. The difference is it has gloss finished back and sides, gold tuners and ES2 electronics. The standard 414ce has satin back and sides, nickel tuners and ES1v3 electronics.

They should sound the same acoustically but slightly different plugged in.

Yes the 2014. Not a huge change then aside from the ES2, but no reason not to look closely at it.

I would add to the list of cosmetics: a deluxe hardshell, (brown) case, abalone dots in the fretboard, abalone dots in the bridge pins, tusq nut/micarta saddle, (as opposed to just tusq) and a gold strap button, (matching the tuners).

Good luck!

Some will argue that the heavier gloss finish will change the tone slightly. Tough call. I think most people would choose the Spring LTD if given the choice.

I'll have to play both side by side to ultimately decide, but the slight tone difference was what I was mostly curious about.

I agree 100%. Although if you add in the 2013 spring LTD I would choose that, and did.
