Default Taylor 214ce

Can anyone comment on the Taylor 214ce? Is the price difference from the 214e or even the 114ce justified. Trying to make a decision on the 214ce or the 214e. Almost 200.00 difference just for the cutaway. Should I even compare the 2 series 1 series. They both sound similar to me. Just looking for a little advice. Thanks for your help.

the difference between the 100/200 series is mostly aesthetics -
100 series has black body binding, sapele laminate back & sides,
200 series has white body binding, rosewood laminate back & sides

the 2007 214ce has a gloss top - current models are satin

the 100 series comes with a padded gigbag,
the 200 comes with a hardshell case (non-archtop)

if i were looking for one (i have no necessity for a cutaway),
i would go with the 114e & then look for a hardshell case

If you go with a used 214e, you may be able to find one that's all solid wood -- like a 314! Those are great deals. I think it's 2005 or earlier but I'm sure someone will clarify.

Between the two in new versions, I'd say save your money and get a 114. I have one and it has served me well. There isn't too much difference IMO.

I have 4 Taylors right now and I played a 214e tonight at Sam Ash here just north of Nashville and it blew me away. For some reason the laminate rosewood with the non-gloss finish just sounds wonderful to me.. I've played more than one of these models over the past few years and I think they may be the best bang for the buck in the Taylor line....just my opinion...jeff

Default move on up!

I'd look around for a 300 or higher series pre-loved (solid tonewood) guitar.
Check local pawn shops and guitar stores first, as well as newspaper adds.
In these tough economic times, You may just score really well for less cash outlay!

Good Hunting!

Need more info on why the ga3 would be better over the 214.

Pete, I've been all over the place in a search for a acoustic guitar that has great playability and acoustic tone. I just returned a T5 that was on loan from a local music store. The playability was to die for. but that's where it stopped for me. I couldn't get anything I liked out of the Fishman Solo or AC60.

I've played everything from the Doyle Dykes model, LTD's, 900's, on down to the Big Baby. After wearing my fingers out over the last month or so, I've come to the conclusion I'm going for a 100 series or 200 series Taylor. I know everyone says "For The Money", but its so much more for me. I'm willing to pay a lot more. And don't get me wrong, the high end Taylors sound better for sure, but not all of them and not that much better. It comes down to playability for me. For what ever reason, the necks on the 100's and 200's are easier for me to play. I've been having trouble with my left hand (arthritis) and it's not a good guitar if you have trouble playing it.

The only thing I'm still confused about is the electronics end. Should I buy one of the "E" models, the ES models or have an after market pickup system installed. I'd like to be able to use a D-Tar Mama Bear or Fishman Aura with it through the Solo. I want it to sound as good as possible.

If you're looking for the Taylor tone andd playability, and want no muss-no fuss electronics that sound great, the 214CE is hard to beat for the price.

I tested several Taylors for/with a friend of mine and the vote went to the 214CE. He plays it at our worship services plugged straight into the church PA and it sounds amazing.
