I saw Yngwie Malmstein in concert once. One of the most talented and classically trained shredders ever to live. It was a cringeworthy, ear-exhausting barrage of notes with no musicality whatsoever. I hated every minute of it and was glad when he finished so the main act came on.
yep!
I was going to drop his name in there too!

I've also watched some of his shenanigans on stage,

all I can say from that is -- he's not a nice guy...

Please tell me y'all aren't getting Malmsteen vibes from this performance?

I can understand if it's not everybody's bag, but this is definitely not notes for notes sake.

Well, thanks for assuming I have no ability to appreciate technical ability. I would never try learning something just to learn it, I would have to enjoy the listening and performing of it and I can promise you, this did not do either of those things for me. Tony McManus blows me out of the water with his technical ability, but I also love what he is playing and can listen all night long while still not knowing how one guy can get that many notes out of a guitar at one time.

As I said prior, I am glad others enjoyed it and I should be able to say I did not. The emperor's clothes as they say.

no!

purely a comparison about technique, vs listening.

I appreciated it a lot for many reasons.

(Yes, Jeff I totally got Esperanza Spalding vibes.)

I'll also say that (unlike Esperanza) I'm not hearing anything yet to make me a fan of the songwriting.
