If they do, they won't be doing it very long unless they can live on $2 or so an hour.

Not for $500. What do you consider inexpensive? 1500, 2,000 yes. But certainly not 500

With all due respect, you are looking at bottom dollar even for decent, all solid wood imported guitars...

Yes there probably are. But the materials, tools, and everything they put into it are still going to be more than 500 bucks

Default Cheaper hand made

Deadwood Guitars in Athens has some interesting guitars. They're more in the $700-$800 range and still a bit green but they've come a long way and are improving.

Inexpensive, handmade, and boutique are difficult words to work into a meaningful sentence. If anyone is regularly making what I consider "a decent guitar" for $500, I have not seen it.

At a $500 price point, I'd be looking at blueridge and Eastman. Nice guitars for the price.

Your request reminds me of the old saying, "You want it strong, lightweight, and inexpensive -- pick two."

I've seen such a thing for $1500--is that what you are talking about?

There are some guitars in the $500 range that are quite nice, but I'm afraid that "inexpensive, handmade/boutique" is an oxymoron. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, I'll be on board!

...Do they exist?

Sure, right next to shy and sensitive used car salemen.
