I think Martin needs to tone down these custom signature editions a bit. Getting tiresome actually.

IMHO, of course.

In the race to the bottom, I think Martin just came-in in first place.

I thought this sort of thing was reserved for low-end Fender guitars and the like. I thought wrong.

Martin is trying muscle in on Taylor's appeal to Worship and Praise musicians!

Oh yeah, in keeping with the theme, that guitar looks like H E Double Hockeysticks!

Southwest Airlines had a Taylor GS-Mini promo. Some shop had one they were selling. I asked if the hideous logo could be removed.

Quote from the spruce top on the new Martin Louvin Brothers guitar:

"Seriously? You Martin guys cut me down, a beautiful spruce tree living in the great outdoors, to cover me up with this graphic disaster? Given the option, I'd rather that you use me for kindling to start your outdoor cookout."

They'll sell really well - to BOTH people out there who would want one.

I too find the endless series of Martin signature models tacky and annoying. Can you say "tying too hard"? And graphics on a guitar remind of stickers on guitars - something that even a $100 Craigslist beater does not deserve, much less something of this $$$$.

That is so very bad. I can't imagine who thought this was a good idea. I mean, maybe they're messing with us? This is Spinal Tap-esque in its terribleness.

Just weird... I really don't have anything against the signature guitars as long as they're tastefully done, and preferably with some input from the actual artist (a bit hard to do when they've "passed on", unless you replicate a favored guitar).

But this is just bizarre.

OK - heres an idea I'll put out there for someone to run with, and you'll only owe me a reasonable percentage -

Thin vinyl sheets, like are used as temporary pickguards, that you order custom printed with the image of your choice. Wanna try your guitar as a light sunburst? Order a dread size sunburst overlay! Think you'd look good with a pink topped "Hello Kitty" OM? Order the overlay and try it out -

Just remove the strings, and lay it over the top - trim around the bridge, fretboard extension, and pickguard if desired, then lightly damp the top of the guitar and squeegee it on! Durable enough to last for years with standard use, but just as easily peeled off and replaced with the latest fad image!

We'll keep a database of guitar shapes and sizes so you just choose your model from the drop down lists. Then choose from the extensive library of available online graphics and simply place them on your top, or upload a picture from your own computer and place it on your template. We'll print and ship out your order so that you can have your custom topped guitar on stage in under 2 weeks!

Just think - a unique new guitar top for every occasion! Planning a wedding gig? How cool would it be to have the newlyweds names on your guitar top - you'll be in every picture! And don't forget to add your website and phone at the bottom - they'll want you with a cake on the top of your guitar for Uncle Joes birthday next month - Friday night is heavy metal, but Sunday you have to play p&w? We got you covered both ways -

And we can license this to all the major manufacturers - no longer do dealers have to carry tacky guitars they'll never sell. They can order just the tacky guitars their customers want! Plus, for the discriminationg guitarist, if Jim Olson won't put Mileys face on the top of his new braz/cedar masterpiece - we will! And better yet, your estate will be able to peel it off!

- - - - -

Anyway - you get the idea. Have your people call my people -

I'm waiting for the all-torrefied wood "Authentic" version...

You too? Got mine for my second birthday (1955), parents threw it out when my younger brother outgrew it - could've financed a new Martin with it today...
