Yes, it is most likely either a D18 or D28. Which level/marque is impossible to say.

I'm wondering why you need to know?

Definitely a D-18, and an older one at that.

He's playing an older D-18 here. Can't get a good enough look at the front to know for sure. I think those are Kluson Deluxe tuners, which they used through much of the 1950's and into the mid-60's. There are hints of a long saddle, which put it pre-1965.

Just from the sound when he takes a break and flat picks the sound states I am a D-18.

Perfect sound and very good band for sure! D-18 plonking away very tastily.

This makes me laugh a little because, while I have a Taylor in addition to my Martin, you would be laughed off the stage in traditional bluegrass if you showed up with a Taylor. You can wear wierd sunglasses or whatever but you still need to show respect and taste. You don't necessarily need a Martin but a Taylor just doesn't work. The idea that on the same planet that has Tony Rice there are also Taylor guitars isn't quite registering.

I don't play much bluegrass. I can pick along nicely and do a few leads, but its not something I do all the time. I take my Taylor along with my Martin to the BG jams at the local spots. They welcomed the Taylor before I had my martin. It held in there just fine.

I met Buddy in Cullman, Alabama back in January and actually got to play that very same guitar. It was a D-18. He said '74 I believe. I thought it was pre-'65.

He is an amazing guitarist and singer. Very friendly, too.

2 Taylors, 3 cutaways, and I did not notice Doc, or anyone in the audience, laughing…..

Same stage, same planet.

If the player is good, it's all good.

It has an ebony board, that would put it before '74.
