This is a great old post.. at least for me- being a newer player.

I love the G chord. I don't care for A. D is kind weak with just 4th-1st string and nothing on the 5/6.

Hard to beat G.

Cmaj7 and Fmaj7 are really nice too.

Well, I don't have perfect pitch, so I can't tell the difference between a C and a D played with the same order of notes with a capo. But I do love using 9 chords. Maj9 and m9 chords would have to be mine. 7's and add9 chords have similar sounds to it, but I just think 9 chords are beautiful when used in the right places.

Whenever I pick up one of my guitars, I automatically slowly strum a "4-finger" C Major. (3 3 2 0 1 0) It's immediately evidence (to me) if the guitar is in tune, and which string needs a minor tweak.

I like haunting chords.. this one haunts me just fine:
Cmaj9#11
x32032

Easiest way for me is to play an open C chord and then put my pinky on the 2nd string 3rd fret (D). Then move my index to the 1st string 2nd fret (F#)...

Think of it as Twister for the guitar....

Mike

No doubt major7th chords are lovely, but based on the chords I use most often in my own songs, I have to go with the simple Dsus2. Love it.
