Default Could any members suggest great music stores in Cleveland please??

I'm in Cleveland for two days on a family vacation but I've managed to secure 6 hrs for myself. Can anyone suggest the best/biggest music store for acoustic guitars and mandolins. I'll probably only have time for one store and I'd like to go somewhere that has more than the usual Taylor line up.

Thanks!

The best music store like you describe is not in Cleveland at all, it's Woodsy's Music in Kent, about 45 minutes away, but worth the trip. There is a place in Shaker Heights that looks promising but I have never been there.
Guitars Plus USA. http://www.guitarsplususa.com/index.shtml
If you go there, please give us a report.
Another place I can highly recommend is Timeless Guitars in Parma. They sell used equipment only. Upstairs is electric, downstairs is all acoustic. Never saw any mandolins there but everytime I go there I find at least one really nice guitar at a great price. Clyde, the owner is a great guy and it's worth checking out.

Rock N Roll hall of fame. They got a bunch of stuff just hanging on the wall. Go ahead and try some out.

Woodsy's keeps their better acoustic guitars in a room on the second floor. Unless you know it is there, you will probably miss it. You have to ask to be let in.

GuitarsPlusUSA.com is an appointment-only kind of place. Steve is a nice guy and he has a mammoth selection of Eastmans. I would not hesitate to do business with him in the future.

I agree...with the time you have, Woodsy's in Kent is likely your best bet; but I'm not too sure about their mandolin inventory? In the high-end room, they carry mostly Martins & Taylors. Another couple options--although a bit farther, but doable:

1. Wildwood Music in Cochocton, OH. A nice drive and almost exactly 2-hours south. Not sure of their mandolin inventory either, but I know they have a few. However, a fantastic selection of mostly Martins, Taylors, & Larrivee's, with a splash of some others, including Lowden.

2. Acoustic Music Works in Pittsburg, PA. is just a touch over 2-hours southeast of Cleveland, and is another treasure with an outstanding mandolin inventory. They have a huge selection of mostly Collings & Bourgeois, with some Huss & Dalton and others thrown in.

2-hours there, 2-hours to play, 2-hours back...BINGO! Have fun!

Timeless Guitars (mostly amps and electrics - acoustics in basement), Guitar Riot (high end electrics and amps, very boutique).

Heights Guitars is closed...

I live in Cleveland and the rest is pretty much a wasteland. Good luck finding anything but Dean and Schecter guitars for sale for the most part.

Not really the city for acoustics and mandos unfortunatly

+1 on this. The first time I went, I had no idea. I went back with my uncle who told me about the upper room and it was amazing.

Thanks to all,

I'm going to check out guitarsplususa.com tomorrow morning, I called and spoke with Steve and made an appointment.

I'm going to try to hit Woodsy's after provided I have time.

Thanks again for all you suggestions.

Yeah, so did I...a used one they took in on trade. I don't believe they're a Collings dealer, but I could be mistaken. Nonetheless, they carry a nice selection of higher end stuff in "the room".
