It's all in the context of what you're playing the chord with, of course. I'm very fond of G6, C9 and D9 as a basis for 12 bar blues.

Then slide the C9 chord form up two frets for D9.

I dig that E. I always teach someone who wants to learn guitar that one first, then I teach them to slide it up to make every major chord imaginable.

Then, of course, comes A, and the same thing.

1) Barred F Chord

2) Barred G Chord

3) 4 fingered G Chord

4) C add9

I like inversions up the neck with open drone strings, and I'm particularly fond of a first position G with D added on the B string.

Any chord with the maj7 interval.
I can write dozen of tunes with only maj7 chords.
