Dave! Congratulations. (to KY Dave too;-) Beauty of a top, and kind of looks like a blood relative of mine, which was a bit unusual during my search last summer when most of the VTS tops had run. My stripes were evident then, but not as pronounced. Like the tone, they have matured quickly in just 6 months. Wonder if I can hold out 80 years to experience the full deal? Cryogenics maybe?

With all the love fest pix, I gotta jump in especially since I didn't share the love with a NGD this time ... mine came from Maury, which was the better of the two he had in July porno wise ... Maury assured me they both sounded awesome in comparison. Not sure about the comparison, but it is sweet aural ecstasy.

Here's a lookie with some quickie iPhone shots (I was on my way to bed, but this now calls for midnight celebration):

now THAT is how the top and back should look on an Authentic. I've frankly been disappointed with the back and side woods on Authentic's. Most of it is straight grain and to me looks more like East Indian. I know it may not affect the sound that much..but If I'm shelling out over 5 grand for a guitar..I want something pretty to look at. Also, that top is perfect. That's a keeper for sure!!!

Congrats martingitdave, nice choice! I checked out the one in comp from MFG just to compare, and I prefer the one you chose from Willcuts by a nose also, due to the straighter looking Madi back and the tighter Adi grain on the top. The amber coloring of this VTS top is also very nice and reminds me of the top on my old OM-28A.

Please let us know how you like the neck when it arrives...it's a handful!

Lots of great looking guitars. User beware, threads like these may lead to a purchase when "you're just looking".

Very exciting news Dave! That is one of the nicest examples of that model I've seen.

I took delivery on a guitar at 3:30 pm from an unheated FedEx van when the outside temp was 18 degrees, the high for the day. After opening the guitar at 10:30 the next morning the top measured 72 degrees. Midwest temps for next week don't look as cold.

You're welcome

Big congrats, huge Madagascar and Authentic fan !~!~!

But......you are going to have this wonderful guitar and gig with your Eastman????

Aside from situations I would avoid too (outside-weather, inside-rowdy bars) why would you not gig with your best, to sound your best?

Anyway, enjoy your Authentic, they are indeed "special" Martins and deserve "nights out"..........

Martingitdave - I have to share the sentiments above...

Gig with an Eastman when you have a Martin Authentic?!?!?!

I can't wait to take mine out on its maiden stage presentation tonight with my band. I put the K&K in mine immediately when it arrived earlier this week. I know you're planning on a K&K or Trance in yours right away, too.

So why bother with something besides the best when you gig?

No worries guys! The Martin will be gigged. But, I won't be taking it to any downtown Chicago events, unless it's a special event. The suburbs are fine. Occasionally, I take a guitar on the train with me. I wouldn't do that with the Martin. So, it's very situational. Truth is, with my workload, I'm not playing as much as I could.

When there is an opportunity to play this new Martin is shall be heard! I might even take it to festivals, maybe. :-). Feeling a little over protective.

Dave,

Were you ever at "It's Here!", a coffee house/music/comedy club over near Loyola U back in the late '60s? I used to play there in my brief sojourn in Chicago...
