The Ed Gerhard Breedlove... is a "breed" apart from most guitars. I owned one with spruce and rosewood, and really loved it's tone. I have never played a guitar with a shallow depth which had the deep bass rumble and volume of that guitar! When I sold it to a local dealer (desparate for money)... he said that it had a built in "subwoofer"! I didn't experiment much with string gauges back then, but I should have tried the True Mediums on it. I have used these sets and really do like the balanced tone and feel of them. I have mostly used the Daddario and GHS variety. Strangely enough, the most use I get out of them is on my Guild 12 string to even out the tension and make sure that the bass comes out strong...(of course I have to put my own sets together and tune down when I do that). I tried the True Mediums on my Taylor GS7 (cedar/rosewood) but it does it's best with full mediums... as it was designed to do.
