Default Can I play my Taylor through an electric guitar amp?

I was wondering if there is any reason why I could not play my GS5e with the 9 volt ES through my brother's little practice amp? It is a Cube 30.

While I am asking, what is the dif. between acoustic amps and electric guitar amps?

Yes, you can play your Taylor through the Cube 30.

Here is the deal on guitar amps:

Electric guitar amps are made to "create" the sound an electric guitar makes. By itself, an electric guitar makes very little sound. The "effects" on an electric guitar amp (reverb, tremolo, delay, etc) are used to "color" the sound the electric guitar makes. So, with electric guitars, the amps and pedals have as much to do with playing electric guitar as the guitar itself.

Now, an acoustic guitar makes that sweet tone that we all love and want to "reproduce" just loud enough for an audience or to record. So, acoustic guitar amps are all about reproducing the sound of the acoustic guitar "without coloring" the sounds. Of course, acoustic amps come with effects too (reverb) but the main goal of a good acoustic amp is to reproduce the sound of the acoustic guitar and not to color it. Since acoustic guitars provide a wide frequency range of sounds, you need an amp (and speakers) capable of reproducing that. As such, most acoustic amps have both bass speakers (woofer/mid-range) and tweeters (for the high frequencies). The amps also tend to be very "clean" meaning they reproduce what comes in to them without distortion (color).

What all this means is your acoustic guitar will sound "better" when amped by a good acoustic amp than it will using an electric guitar amp. if you want recomendation on a good acoustic amp, search around as the topic has been covered a lot (or just start a new thread).

Good luck

Thanks phil,

I get the point. I just wanted to know if it was safe for the ES. I have read about the acoustic amps here at AGF. I think know what I would get if I had the $$$. But I don't so I won't

When I have been too lazy to drag out my acoustic amp after practicing electric, I have actually gotten a pretty good sound from my Fender Deluxe Reverb amp with my Taylor 414CE or my Takamine 12 string.

G day Lou you can't harm the es or your guitar by using an electric amp.
It just wont be a pure reproduction of your guitars voice.
So go for it.

back in my band days, we opened up for a touring act and the acoustic player used a fender twin reverb. he said that was the only amp that didnt feedback and could handle the acoustic registers.

sounded great.
