Default Request for suggestions on guitars to consider and try

Hi,

So, suppose I have 3500 euros to spend at a place like TFOA:

https://www.tfoa.eu/en/acoustic-guit...x=3500&brand=0

That link (if I did it right) will take you to TFOA and search all steel string acoustics under 3500 euros ...

Which ones would you recommend me to try out?

You'll probably get more specific answers if you are more specific with what you are looking for.

What kind of music do you play? Picking, strumming, finger picking? Accompanying vocals, or as part of a group, or just for playing alone at home? You get the idea.

That being said:

I'm particularly fond of my Eastman E10D. I would try a bunch of their Eastmans to see if I just got very lucky

Well I'd try them all but make sure you try the classics;

J45
Hummingbird (3699 but you should try one at least)
D-18
D-28
Martin 000 or 00
The Atkins are out of range, but only just at 3699, so you really should try them - they are phenominal

Any anything else that catches your eye on the day

Try lots of brands. Then, try a nicely appointed Furch and think over the quality it has in tone and build compared to the cost of the other guitars.

(You’re lucky—TFOA have a very nice stock of Furch guitars.)

Thanks for the suggestion. I play many styles so am looking for something a bit of an all-rounder. I like my two Eastmans, the E6D is one of my two main acoustics for playing out, it misses some clarity though. The Taylor is great for playing amplified, although the fingerboard is a bit too flat.

The D-18 I will certainly try as that is "the" all-round guitar IMO. A buddy of mine has a Guild that sounds great. And I just love me a sunburst. Too bad that Southern Jumbo they have is a lefty.

The best advice I can give to you, is to think really hard about your musical needs, style, and playing/performing plans, and focus in on buying the instrument that will suit ALL the above AND your hands, ....... rather than just spending some money on a guitar.

TFOA are a good bunch, and I've bought from them twice - sadly purchasing from the EU for a Brit like me is more complicated and expensive!

There is no way that I can recommend a lovely Eastman "parlour" if you are a bluegrass flat picker, or a dreadnought if you play intricate fingerstyle, or a jumbo if you want an OM.

I'd save your money and spend a little time working out what you want/need out of a guitar AND things like nut width, string spacing, scale length, body woods etc.

I'm going to just give you recommendations off of the TFOA guitars from my taste and experience.

The first I'd try, without question, would be the Boucher Native Goose. This is just from report and videos, since they are not available here to try. But these seem to me incredibly promising guitars, and were one available to play here, I'd be off tomorrow to audition it.

Maple jumbos are often a taste one acquires, and I have one but it is not my only player. The Gibson J185 is generally (a term one uses with all Gibsons, since the older ones at least vary quite a bit sometimes from sample to sample) a really fine rewarding maple jumbo with a more focused voice than the SJ200, and works well as both a strummer and finger style guitar.

Finally the two Gibson 50s J45s are worth a shot. Again, the warning--which really applies to most guitars, certainly Martins--that some samples are substantially better than others.

(I have a fine Martin HD28, but have come to be more interested in guitars that don't roll off the upper mids and highs as much as Martins generally do.)

If you are into fingerstyle, 12 fret and slot heads, then this Iris OG 12 fret is the obvious choice, but then I am biased as I just got one delivered to my home today and it is incredible. But they also have some flatpicker styles as well if you want to try out an Iris.

They have some very nice guitars, be a kid in a candy shop and try them all!
