Is a hot dog considered a sandwich?
Now it's time for a really serious discussion.
If a hot dog on a bun is a sandwich, then a hamburger on a roll must be also. This is not something I had ever thought about until I saw the question posed somewhere else....... Uh oh.

This should clear things up:

No to both. Not sandwiches. Hot dogs and burgers are each their own category.

If it's wrapped in bread, held in your hands, and put in your face hole - it's a sandwich.

Many a dhild eats the hot dog without the bun, it’s still a hotdog. So I say, not a sandwich. Plus, it’s really more cradled in the bread than “sandwiched”.

I don’t care how you classify them, I love hotdogs! I’ll take a cheap version from some dingy joint south of Market St or, better yet, the one you get at Costco. We used to have an amazing hotdog street vendor called “Let’s Be Frank” who would set up in Hayes Valley or at Crissy Field, but he disappeared just after I became addicted. Not fair! Recently, I went to an expensive, reportedly high class restaurant called Progress located next door to the Fillmore Auditorium here in SF, and had an expensive hotdog that is not even on their menu, but is absolutely amazing. (Now you are in the know). Homemade bun, grass fed hotdog, organic/non GMO veggies, you get the picture. If any of you visit our fine city and like hotdogs, I highly recommend them. Cheers!

Include me out - I don't eat industrially processed meats, plus here in the UK most have mastered the process of eating with cutlery.

hot dog + no bun = hot dog
hot dog + bun = hot dog hot dog on sliced bread = hot dog sandwich

I don't believe that the tube-like structure of the meat inside the bun disqualifies it from "sandwich" status.
