Modal Buddy for scale practice. I use it a lot with my students.
Play Guitar --- fun app for learning guitar licks
Progression for IPAD --- I use this to write out parts for my students. It translate music notation into TAB. Great App
AnyTune Pro
Guitar Toolkit... lot of complaints about advertisement spam... I haven't experienced any of this.
Studio Mini... a very simple, but limited, multi-track recorder. Easy to use and I can record my students, email recording to parents... Mom dad love to hear their kid play..

and easy to use as well
Thanks for the tip. This one is terrific. Wish I'd had the chord quiz years ago!

I use Realbook to keep my music organized. I like the feature to link music,either my own or music in my iTunes music file. Also, the onboard recorder allows you to slow music down to figure out songs.

Hi All

Just downloaded Songbook app for my ipad but trouble is all my songs (1500 in total) are in doc or docx format which it wont accept. Tried to find a a doc to txt converter on line but the one I found has corrupted all the titles so the all begin with `unlicensed`. Any one suggest a good free converter?
Thanks

I updated the app list. In searching for the specific apps in the app store I could not find:

* - Play Guitar
* - Realbook

I use a free app called Chordbank. You can look up chords in different positions and do backwards search of chords.

  • UnrealBook…Sophisticated -simple to learn/use - chart display, song-list building app. Created in 2010, it is still actively supported and updated without becoming bloated. Bluetooth pedal capable, and if you rotate your iPad side-wise can bet set to advance pages ½ page at a tap. (The mobile version is not worth exploring-not nearly as good)
  • iReal Pro - Real book emulator, chart/chord display app with built in instruments. Huge (easy to use) user library of thousands of charts already formatted. It can play the charts, transpose them, and play them in different styles and tempos. Has a Macintosh counterpart program ($20 in Mac app store) which makes it easy to create and edit your own charts. The built in instruments work great when you plug your iOS device into an amp or stereo to play along with.
  • Peterson iStrobosoft Tuner app is accurate to 1/1000 of a half step (1/10 cent), and displays pitch, cents, Hz, midi-note, and has a settable noise filter and input boost.
  • Beat On - great drum/rhythm metronome app.

Loopy HD is a multi-track looper that is pretty easy to use and can be operated by a midi footswitch. It has been used by Jimmy Fallon on the Tonight Show with Billy Joel and Robert Plant. Here's a very good example of the app in use:

Edit: a footswitch is not required. You can do it all just by touchscreen, id you wish.
