Take it everywhere! Guitars are tougher than people give them credit for.

I keep this Collings D2HA year around at the cottage. Here's a pic of it back amongst it's sisters and brothers in the High Sierra:

When I leave I just detune it a bit, put in the humidifier packets, and close it's Hiscox Pro II case. Never had a problem!

Default Always your best

I have had a similar debate with myself a long time ago.
I was going to a secluded island in the BVIs. I almost borrowed a buddy's carbon guitar because I was worried about my expensive custom.
I decided what the heck, if I'm going to a fantastic place for a vacation, why not take the best guitar that I can.
I've never looked back on that decision.
I take my custom Taylor everywhere I go.
Seem like I only play my less expensive guitars at home.
Go figure.
Play and enjoy...just be sensible

What exactly does 'to cottage' mean in the UK? It actually doesn't even have a meaning in the US that I know of, I've never heard anyone use the expression. I'm assuming the OP is literally going to a cottage on a lake.

I agree. That's what I purchased my Rainsong.

Wondering what you guys think about bringing an expensive all solid wood guitar with me. Will the humidity be an issue for a one week trip? I'm not talking about taking it out on the boat or anything ...just playing in the cottage or on the deck.

Was thinking if bringing my hd28v, gibson hummingbird or maybe taylor 614ce.

The cottage has no ac.
No worries. Keep it in case when not playing. No worries. I've done it often with good guitars and they don't react terribly to changes on short term. Some react more than others but none will be damaged by changing humidity for short term.

DEET is not your only choice for insect repellent. Permethrin (also called picaradin) works very well and will not harm plastics or finishes harmed by DEET. Have been using repellants with this active ingredient for years on photography outings-- many a photographer has discovered too late that DEET dissolves plastics. It also smells better, can be used on clothing and shoes, and you don't have to wonder about the wisdom of applying something to your skin that melts plastic.

Otherwise, I think it depends on things others have mentioned. If I'm tent camping, I'm not going to leave an expensive guitar in my tent or locked in a hot car if, say, I want to go hiking for a few hours. But if you feel your cabin is secure, and/or in a location where theft is not a concern, go for it.

I always take my favorite guitar...the only risk I see is theft, but I've never had one stolen while on holiday. Did have one lifted at a gig though!
