Default What's the coldest outdoor gig you've done?

I have a private party coming up this weekend and I'm a little concerned. The temps will be 38-42 and it will be for 3 hours. Will that pose any danger to my guitars being in those temps for that long? I don't really currently have a "beater" with a decent pickup in it to use or I would take that. Anyone ever have a outdoor gig in similar cold conditions?

…..upper thirties is the coldest temperature I’ve gigged in…..I did just that last month at a late night slot at an outdoor stage at the Sisters Folk Festival in Oregon…I bought some of those disposable hand warmers and kept them in the pockets of my jacket to warm my hands between songs….that helped….my guitars were fine…

Town-wide outdoor Christmas gig, around 40 degrees, misty rain, metal stage. It was a 40 minute gig, I used an Ovation. The guitar had no problems, but after 20 minutes I was struggling, my fingers were freezing. I used fingerless gloves, but really didn't help. This was sometime in the 90's and I didn't know about hand warmers, they may have helped.
Good luck if you do take the gig.

Mid October upstate New York a few years ago. Big band gig after the sun went down.

Eastman AR605 acoustic, Guitar was fine no issues. Fingers another story. I had a few hand warmers I used between tunes to slightly warm up my fingers. 2 hour gig.

I bought my wife a battery powered hand warmer a couple years ago that should work just fine.

28 degrees at an outdoor wedding. Fortunately I had a Rainsong.

I do recommend Wristies.

It was many years ago, but I remember high 30's. We were on a platform which was on top of ice. My understanding is that the guitar will be fine as long as you don't warm it too quickly after the gig. Your fingers will be another story. I found it a bit torturous, but in your shoes I would definitely look into some hand warmers.

There were three of us and we had a Heater Buddy propane heater set up behind us. It didn't help a lot, but we could turn and warm our fingers between songs.

I've done some Saturday morning farmer's markets gigs in late Nov./early Dec. but I was the bass player and I'm a little less precious about that guitar than the others.

I've played in the low 40s but the tuning was always such an issue when it gets cold. I'm tuning after every song.

That's about what I'm heading into this Sat. Trying to figure out how to keep hands/fingers warm.

a few years back an outdoor Octoberfest as solo gig.

the night started out on the cool side but comfortable, ended somewhere around 45 degrees. I really started to feel the side effects of the cold starting to creep in during the entire last set.

It was Christmas 1968 and about 7 of us from our youth group at church went door to door singing carols to shut-ins one evening. The temp was in the mid 30's and I was playing my Yamaha 12-string. My fingers were practically frozen and we stayed out for about 45 minutes doing this. All the other kids were bundled to the max but I had to be lightly covered and no gloves so I could play guitar. I don't think I played again for about a month - LOL!

38 and windy. It was in October for an Autumn Street Fair and it was a miserable 1.5 hours! It was so cold, I dropped my bow a couple of times because my hands were so cold I couldn’t hold it correctly. Throw in a fast shuffle and there it went! LUCKILY, it didn’t break the tip on it!
