I have spent more than I ever thought I would on a guitar, and while I don’t regret it, I won’t do it again. I have an internal limit and anything more than that just makes me uncomfortable.

I have 3 in that $2,500 range and 1 just below and another that was around $1,200 new. In hindsight I could have taken that $10,000 and bought one really great guitar, but I'd be sleeping on the couch for spending that much in one transaction on a guitar. It was easy to get spousal approval for several less expensive guitars over the years.

I used to be big into vintage guitars.

I once spent $19,500 for a '62 Stratocaster. It's in superb condition, and rarely sees the light of day.

Some years back three friends and I went in on the purchase of a bonafide 1960 Gibson Les Paul Burst. We spent $90,000 on it. We sold it at the Arlington Guitar Show a year and a half later for $135,000, making a nice tidy profit on the sale.

That was my final transaction in the vintage market...
