Default Yairi CY 127 CE

I've seen a few of these on the Bay. They look pretty neat. Has anyone owned/played one of these? If so, I'd appreciate your review. Since I only plug in occasionally, the one thing I'm curious about is the unplugged sound. I know the body of the CY 127 CE is thinner, which may reduce the projection acoustically. Any additional info. would be cool too. Thanks in advance for your responses.

I owned one years ago for a while. I remember it as being a little less full sounding than a deeper body guitar but still quite good. For me, the 2 inch nut was the problem and I sold it.

Thanks Royd. I recently sold a Cy-117, mainly because I had difficulty working down to and past the 12th fret. Rather than installing a pick-up on a classical, the Cy 127 Ce looks like it may work out for me. I really don't amp, I use tone port and garage band to lay down loops, and always practice acoustically.

Cool

You are right, the 127ce is the older (they don't make them anymore) and the 128ce is the newer model.

The 128 is larger size for better unplugged sound, supposedly.

I have a 127ce and LOVE IT. I like the 2" nut. If you go for 127ce, try for the THREE button model (as opposed to older TWO buttons). The 3 buttons pop-up; the 2 buttons are always out.

Look on web for ALVAREZ YAIRI and there is a tour of the site where they make these guitars in Japan. Very impressive.

There is an Alvarez forum/user group on Yahoo, so if you do a search there, you can find LOTS of comments about the 127ce.

As you said, there are a few on EvilBay, some good deals around $700-800 which seems to be the range for a good deal.

Good luck with your search.

Thanks DJ !

That's good info about the newer 3 button models.

There was a 2001 (3 buttons) on ebay a few days ago, and a 1991 (2 buttons) model locally on C/L.

I played the C/L model, and it was nice, but a little too beat up for my taste.

I got home and was going to make an offer on the 2001 with 3 buttons, but someone had snagged it.

I logged on to the yahoo Alvarez/Yairi forum and left an inquiry for anyone that was looking to sell one.

Thanks again for the great tips.

Barry

I always check Elderly Instruments used section at least once per week. They usually have uses Yairi classicals in stock. I see 2 currently listed. One is a CY 127ce. This is a very reputable business. I have always been pleased with them.

Thanks Lady Toni.
It's funny, I was just on their site this morning looking at some guitar/fretboard polish. I didn't check out their used site until just a few minutes ago. The CY127CE they have has some issues that I don't think I could repair. Thanks for the tip, and I'll continue to scan their used section every few days or so.

Barry: Sounds like you are pretty comfortable with online purchases, and if that is the case, might look at the NATIONAL CRAIGSLIST postings. I saw over the weekend there were three 127's there and two looked pretty new and nice. I've bought and sold more than a few on Craigslist and most folks are honest...just have to be careful for small percent of folks who would rip you off.
I ran across a COLLECTOR who bought a number of Alvarez guitars he said from a bankrupt distributor a few years back. One of his models is a NEW, old-stock, unplayed 127ce. He wants top $$ for it,($1050 was last asking price I saw) but if you want a NEW instrument, send me a PM and I will shoot you his e-mail. I tried to negotiate with him and he jerked me around long enough that I did not buy from him.
I don't know him, not saying I would recommend him, but if you have an interest, I'd be glad to send you the info.

Good luck with your search.

I have been a fairly long time reader but this is my first post so Hello to everyone. I currently have a CY127CE that I purchased about a year and a half ago. It is a quality built and great sounding guitar. It could probably be argued that the great tone and string separation of this guitar is somewhat due to the 660 mm scale length but it has turned out to be a little too much for me. I paid 750.00 plus shipping for it and would be open to selling for that price. I am not familiar with procedures for communicating “off line” but I saw the thread and thought I would make the offer.

DJ,
was the guy by chance one of the moderators on the yahoo Yairi forum? He told me he had a few CY127's, but wanted top dollar. I inquired as to what years and condition 127's he had, but he didn't respond. BTW, the one from Phoenix C/L was from a store, and they said that they don't ship. I was trying to figure out how to do a national search on C/L the other day, but didn't see a link. Thanks for all your help.

Cool

Barry: the guy I was e-mailing and ended up talking with was in NJ.
As I mentioned if you want his info, shoot me a PM on this site and I will send you the info...I would not want to put his name on an open forum.

If you do Google for Craigslist, it should give you several sites that do NATIONAL CRAIGSLIST SEARCH.

If you can't find one, try this one and you can fill in the info to search for ANY BRAND of guitar in the USA.

Hope that helps.

Default Fretboard Radius Yairi CY 127 CE

Trying to do a setup on my daughter's Yairi CY 127 CE -- the individual bridge saddles fell out, asked Alavarez-Yairi support for directions to reinstall them in the correct order, sent them pics, they could not specify the order and they no longer have replacements saddles for it. Any help is much appreciated.
