Shubb and the Planet Waves NS Capo. I used to use the Dunlop trigger years ago but that fell out of favor once I bought the Shubbs and NSs.

Favorite Capo

(and I’ve got a collection of several kinds of them *lol*)

My most favorite, favorite, go to one is the Vladya Ptacek capo handmade in the Czech Republic

$145.00 (For those curious about what they go for)

Default capos

I don't use capos a lot but seem to have quite a few: Keyser, Shubbs, Bird of Paradise, Planet Waves, G7 Newport, G7 Performance, Dunlop.

My favorite is the G7 Newport. Lagging well behind is the other G7 and the Planet Waves, then the Shubbs, and everything else is way behind them.

I value ease of use, intonation issues (or lack thereof), and small footprint more than convenience, that I don't forget that.

I own and have tried many, the one I always use is the planet waves tri-action. One hand operation, I can adjust tension, fits easily on the headstock, rarely have to re tune and it doesn't break the bank, what more can I ask for.

It's still pretty new, so maybe this is a little premature, but I'm going to go ahead and say the Shubb Fine Tune (F1) capo -- I really like this design and how it is put together. Very easy, smooth, and fine adjustment.

I've also had good luck with the other Shubbs -- the Deluxe and the original. Not sure what I think about the G7 -- sometimes I think I like it and sometimes I wonder if I've quite got the hang of it.

I really have not tried all the contenders out there, although I have tried Keyser and some similar capos and I'm not a fan. To each his or her own.

This. I have three of these and like 'em more and more as the patina develops.

(Shubb anyway, though, regardless of the color.)

I'll never understand Elliott capos. Or rather, I don't understand spending 10x as much for a clamp that stops your strings. I could see the money on picks (but I'm a finger picker anyway), as they have something to do with sound production. On top of not being necessary, I find the Elliott's unattractively industrial looking.

I have a $12 Kyser and it does the job just fine.

Great that the Kyser works for you. For me, it is about sound production. The Elliott is what consistently gives me the tone I am looking for if I need to use a capo on my particular guitars. Just because some folks hear the difference and some folks don't doesn't mean there isn't a difference. It just means that you get what satisfies your requirement for a capo for less money!

Best,
Jayne
