Default Will Taylor "fix" a new guitar??

Recently I played a killer 714 at my local Sam Ash. It's a 2002 model. It has the old fishman system in it. They have a good price on it but it has a crack just behind the bridge about 1 & 1/2 inches long. Plus it needs a setup. If I traded for this or bought it would Taylor fix it?....just wondering...it does sound great...it blows away all of the other "new" Taylors they have.

Since you wouldn't be the original owner, the Warranty wouldn't apply, of course. But my guess would be that yes, Taylor or one of their factory authorized service techs would be happy to make the repairs needed. I'd start with a phone call to Taylor's Customer Service. They're tops!

is it an '02 model that was sold as a new instrument?

reason why i ask is because there's a sam ash in town that can't seem to get rid of an '02 514ce. and it's being sold as new.

Taylor views any of their instruments being carried by an authorized dealer that have not been previously sold as "new" regardless of how old they are.

Nice if you can find one for a blowout price, Taylors don't seem to stay in stock around here... :-(

If indeed it's a new guitar Taylor will fix it. If it's used you'll have to pay for the repair.

Default Scary

The thought of a Taylor being in a Sam Ash for 5+ years unsold is scary. It might be as dry as a popcorn fart.

That was my impression -- that he was saying that the guitar has never sold since it was new. In that case, it makes me wonder if Taylor wouldn't take it out on the dealer for not caring for the instrument.

Yep.
If you are the original owner of a "new old stock" Taylor, no matter what year the model is, Taylor covers repairs under warranty...even if you purchased the guitar needing those repairs.

This guitar has been sitting at a Sam Ash for 7 years??

Given the price those 714-with-Fishman guitars sold for, I can easily see how one with a crack in it might hang on the wall a long, long, long time.

While a NOS guitar would have the full Taylor warranty. I doubt they would view any damage done at the dealer as covered by the factory warranty. That said, one could certainly get a great deal on a NOS guitar - especially if there is pre-existing damage.

If the guitar sounds great and feels great, I would not hesitate to purchase the guitar and factor in any damage into my offer. I would then promptly contact Taylor, get a quote for the repairs and ship it for the repair work.

Taylor does fantastic repair work and the cost would probably be far less than the amount saved on the NOS purchase.

Yep, it's a new guitar....been there a long time. Acoustically it sounds great!!..This guitar also has a "ding" on the front. I figure it got the ding, plus it arrived at the store just before the ES system came out, so it never sold.

Seems like these go for 2700, if you could get it for about 1350 it would be a killer deal (thats proabably about what they paid for it seven years ago).
