I'm sorry... But what musician doesn't "rate" the Beatles? (I am assuming by "rate" you mean give high ratings or appreciation to, but correct me if it's a language problem)

Never been my cup of tea much like Clapton can't particularly fault them just never did much for me. I must say the rendition on let it be in the movie across the universe with the black Baptist choir was particularly amazing.

No doubt, the best band that ever was and probably ever will be. How four guys that talented all wound up together is almost unbelievable.

Not to slight his band-mates in the least, but Paul in particular seems to have a really good ear for melody. His melodies sometimes have a way of going where you don't expect and then returning in ways I really enjoy.

Perhaps the strongest testament to their melodies is the existence of so many instrumental versions by such diverse artists. Arthur Fiedler, who conducted the Boston Symphony and Boston Pops orchestras, was a big Beatles fan, for example.

i think they would all admit to a lot of hard work. for me, the amazing thing is how 4 people of different temperaments, who both complemented and contrasted with each other, got and stayed together under the unique circumstances (time and place) that they did. i also credit mind-expansion, and george martin, with providing a lot of creativity.

it was a confluence of the universe.

I like certain eras of the Beatles. The early stuff does nothing for me. Great pop songs for sure, just not my cup of tea. The later stuff I do enjoy. I think a good argument can me made that they are the best of all time even though they def aren't my favorite of all time. I agree with what was said about their melodies. That really set them apart.

It's obviously a generational gap. Just like my generation doesn't appreciate big band or Jazz as much as our parents/grandparents. I personally can't sit through a Gene Kelly dance/musical that my folks loved.
By 1980's rock standards, The Beatles were absolutely tame elevator type music.
