Thanks for that. I also enjoyed Chet's rendition of The Boxer that was linked there.

I'm sorry... But what musician doesn't "rate" the Beatles? (I am assuming by "rate" you mean give high ratings or appreciation to, but correct me if it's a language problem)

<<<<This guy for one all though I have become more appreciative of them since meeting my gf since she is a huge Beatles fan. Never been my cup of tea much like Clapton can't particularly fault them just never did much for me. I must say the rendition on let it be in the movie across the universe with the black Baptist choir was particularly amazing.

As Chet said, its the melodies that set the Beatles apart. The just wrote one great melody after another, time after time after time after............

Certainly appreciate the contributions of both Chet and the Beatles, wouldn't rank either very high on the musical scale.

No doubt, the best band that ever was and probably ever will be. How four guys that talented all wound up together is almost unbelievable.

Not to slight his band-mates in the least, but Paul in particular seems to have a really good ear for melody. His melodies sometimes have a way of going where you don't expect and then returning in ways I really enjoy.
Perhaps the strongest testament to their melodies is the existence of so many instrumental versions by such diverse artists. Arthur Fiedler, who conducted the Boston Symphony and Boston Pops orchestras, was a big Beatles fan, for example.

I never found them all that interesting; same with Clapton.

I like certain eras of the Beatles. The early stuff does nothing for me. Great pop songs for sure, just not my cup of tea. The later stuff I do enjoy. I think a good argument can me made that they are the best of all time even though they def aren't my favorite of all time. I agree with what was said about their melodies. That really set them apart.

It's obviously a generational gap. Just like my generation doesn't appreciate big band or Jazz as much as our parents/grandparents. I personally can't sit through a Gene Kelly dance/musical that my folks loved.
By 1980's rock standards, The Beatles were absolutely tame elevator type music. |

They wrote some great songs, but other people often did better versions of them.
