Thank you for the explanation of runout. Very interesting.

Re: a wider nut on the Mini, much as I'd also love to see it, I really doubt if it will ever happen. After all these years Taylor has never offered a 1 3/4 nut on the Baby, Big Baby, 100 or 200 series. There's probably an economic reason behind this decision, and even though the GS Mini is a huge seller it would probably be cost prohibitive to retool things. And how much would you pay for the wider nut? $50? $100? More?

Back to the original topic, I think it's a fabulous idea and the guitar looks really nice, but I wonder about pairing Engleman and maple. I think mahogany or sapelle would be a better match with the Engleman. Maybe that gorgeous quilted sapelle used on the Limited Minis? But it is unique, and maybe that's the idea.

In my experience, I prefer Englemann spruce rather than sitka or adirondack when paired with maple. The richer overtones of englemann add a special touch to maple.

Default Short recordings of Holden GS Mini

Ok, folks, as requested here are a couple of dropbox links for the Holden Village GS Mini, with Engelmann top from Holden wood. The two samples are by noted Seattle guitarist Randal Bays:

You're probably right: the Englemann would probably help tame the inherent brightness of maple compared to sitka or adi spruce.

Whats not to like about this. Been looking at the Minis at our local shop and they are very good guitar for the price. Here is a way to get one that is unique and aid a good cause. These are laminated back and sides so the maple will just look very classy. I really doubt that Taylor will make one that sounds bad.

Default special run of GS Minis

Varve, that sounds great. I like the clarity . The GS mini is a great guitar for recording . It really is a very versatile little guitar.

I generally prefer the greater overtones of Engelmann to Sitka. I'm sure that Engelmann/plywood will sound just as good if not better than Sitka/plywood.

Default Holden GS Mini Sound Samples

My Bad! I am a middle aged surgeon, not a wizard with the Google

Try these: A little blues, and a bonus celtic track for your trouble....

https://www.dropbox.com/s/2sbwahfhvx...%27s%20Jig.m4a

Cheers, Dave
There are some techies at Holden who will have better luck with all 5 samples in a few days...

Nice! The bass is a bit lacking as expected from a smaller guitar, but the engelmann top does add some sweetness compared to my brother's GS mini. Really enjoyed the playing too. Am really tempted now.

I don't know if one of these is in my future. Nut width is a limiting factor and these are VERY bright sounding. I am intrigued with the idea of a locally sourced guitar, however.

I must say that the sound samples are played extraordinarily well -- really superb playing. Thanks for posting those!

Please try the mahogany version with Martin strings (instead of the tinkly Elixers) and then report back ;-)

It would also make what is obviously a special little guitar much more appealling.

HINT HINT!!
i'd be inline with $ in hand
