Agreed. We do this frequently in speech. If you have a 305 cubic inch Chevrolet motor, you'd call it a "three oh five". We commonly do the same with zip codes, phone numbers, and time.

One good reason to get it right when dealing with guitars (Martin and others that use the "0" sizes) is that you'll get much better results with web searches if you spell it correctly. And then there's the personal satisfaction of just doing it right.

I find it hard to believe that anybody, anywhere ever used the word "aught" to mean "nothing".

"Aught" has a long history of meaning "something" ... its antonym, "naught", is the word which means "nothing".

Hence "dread nought" = "fear nothing"... first applied as a nomenclature to a class of British Navy battleships.
