Default question about my hands

weird question time. I am playing a few gigs this month outdoors. Normally my gigs are summertime sweatfests! Now that it is October and cold [for sitting and playing fingerstyle guitar] is it damaging to our hands to play in the cooler weather ? I feel like it is harder to "feel " the strings [on the fretting side ] .Just want to know if it's harmful for a few hours . I know it is uncomfortable! Thanks.

I don't think it's long term harmful but it's short term very uncomfortable.

coldest I've been in was 49 degrees by the end of my last set.

You might be Ok if it's not too cold. Wear gloves as much as you can and have a heater close by. I don't think it damages your hands to play in cold weather but my hands get numb when cold and that is not conducive to good playing.

I remember High School Band. Some of those Friday night football game halftime shows were brutal. The brass players having to blow air through their instruments to keep the valves from freezing. Keeping mouthpieces in their pockets to keep them warm.

Being a drummer I was able to sit with my hands under my arms or between my legs to keep them warm until we had to play.

But as long as we were playing you kept the blood flowing and we were OK.

You may be uncomfortable but you won't be hurt. What will probably suffer the most will be your playing.

Be careful when moving your guitar between warm and cold environments. It is a great way to craze a nitro finish.

Hi Bluenose…
My tempos suffer when my hands go numb.
