Yeah I really love my all-mahogany Concertina. Nice bluesy mahogany tone, surprisingly large bass presence due to the scalloped bracing, but very compact and portable due to the 12-fret neck.

There is a Frontier Concertina on eBay right now and another one at Guitar Center. They only made the all-mahogany version for a couple years. I have the more basic USA model but I think the Frontier looks better with the gloss finish.

I have played the following and looking for additional recommendations:

Martin 00-28, 00-18 and 000-18

Taylor 312, 322, AD22

Any pros / cons / favorites of the above that I have tried?

What else should I get my hands on to try?

Thanks in advance for your opinions.
I suggest adding a used Santa Cruz 00 1929 to the list.

My recommendation is that you expand your list enough to include the Martin 000-28. The rosewood back and sides add considerable depth to the sound.

I would say the Guild M-20 fits everything you've described.

Have you tried a Martin CEO-7? Adirondack top, mahogany back and sides. Fits your description well and can be had for $2,500

Yep! Beat me to it. The CEO-7 immediately came to my mind when I read your “list of demands”. The only challenge I can foresee is your comfort level with the Martin version of the “Mod-V” neck profile on that model. I love the way the CEO-7 sounds…but the neck has been the reason I’ve never owned one. But, many here love that shape…

I have 00-28. After spending all afternoon in the music shop playing different Martins this one stood out. The volume and tone are nearly identical to the 000 but the comfort was incredible. Also, if you stand and play occasionally this is the one to have. I also use it for recording. It seems to have the perfect balance and no EQ is ever required. I prefer rosewood to mahogany but each to his own.

These reimagined standard series guitars are some of the best Martin's ever made.

That's a great guitar, but all I've looked at the past few years are $4000+, often $5000+. I'm thinking a Waterloo or Martin 00-18/28 fits the bill. (Also, agree w-others the CEO-07 is another possibility)

Well, I seemingly like many of the same things as I have a few guitars that pretty much fit that description and like them all. You've obviously already tried a 000-18 - I love mine and find it very versatile. CEO-7 has been suggested in this thread and I agree wholeheartedly, this one is probably my favourite out of the guitars I own that match this description. I also have a ladder braced Waterloo WL14 and love it but it's definitely different sounding than the others, much more focused and what I would call boxy, but not in a bad way.

I think the Waterloo and Iris suggestions are spot on, but I would also suggest you give a Martin 000-17 a spin as well. Mine is dry and punchy and has a strong Gibson vibe to the tone. I use it for everything, but it is stellar for blues as well.

I'm waiting on their 14 fret, but yeah, that would also be a great option for the OP.

Eastman E20OOSS.

Think Gibson 00, but better-made.
