Default Taylor AD17 and color evolution

Hi,

So today I spent quite a while playing three guitars : the AD17 and AD27, and the 517. The AD17 just blew me away. I liked both the other ones, but the notes just seemed to jump out of the AD17.

I was ready to buy, except I like sunburst. There is a blacktop version of the AD17, both guys at the shop thought it was ugly (they did not have one in stock, but they did a while back). So I am hesitant to buy this without seeing it first.

The one they have in the shop is sweet! But man that spruce is so white. I am wondering, how do Taylors evolve as far as the top color goes, as the guitar ages?

You can find lots of those answers on Taylors website. They actually brag that their current polyester finishes will NOT yellow with time.

Im not a fan of black guitars….until I got a AD17e. Its so thin, you can see the grain through the finish. Really did a nice job. I do prefer nitrocellulose, but definitely understand and appreciate Taylors finishing choices. I am forbidden from spraying lacquer in my basement shop. Whole house smelled like a high-volume nail salon!

I wouldnt but sight unseen if you have doubts, but wouldnt dismiss them either until you lay hands on one.

I wonder if that particular guitar would look less anemic under different lighting.
It sounds like it’s a winner to your ears, so I would wonder if they all sound that good. Taylor guitars as a rule are pretty uniform but you may still have found the diamond in the rough!

I have a Larrivee D03 with a very pale top and it still looks pale after 25 years.

My 2012 314ce is aging nicely to a warm golden color, but it is a slow process. I believe the finish is the same as they use now.
