Default Pretty Things in Small Packages

John How Ladder Braced Concert: I'd played one of John's road trip Ladder Braced Concerts, fell in love and placed my order. I've owned and loved this beauty for twelve years now. A fun process w/ build pics and all the anticipation.

I picked the rope style purfling for the trim and soundhole and requested the 45 style fingerboard inlay and neck shape. I'm a fan of Joan Baez's 0-45 (the one she let Bob play) and wanted to give a nod to that iconic Martin.

Particulars include Red spruce top, flamed mahogany b&s, Brazilian rosewood peghead plate, fingerboard and bridge.

Every once in a while I'll install a Fishman Blackstack and take 'er on a gig.

I've always thought that John made some of the prettiest guitars. Really like his aesthetic sensibility.

That is an incredible looking guitar my friend. There are so many brands I’m not familiar with that I learn about on this Forum. What a beauty.

Lovely, Stephen... congrats! I played one of John's at Artisan that looked a lot like this one. It was sweet... had a personality all its own. I played it a long time and thoroughly enjoyed it. And it took a LOT of self-control to leave that day without making shipping arrangements. I've thought about that one many times since. Fun guitars!

Thanks for the kind words, the How is a surprising guitar. Everyone who picks it up does a double take on first the volume and then what a joy it is to play.

The How has more sustain and complexity than you'd expect from a ladder braced mahogany guitar. Beauty and tone. I rarely see other How's for sale on the used market, I missed one last year by a minute.

A shout out to John for a special instrument!

…..I’m guessing this fine instrument is potato chip light….it looks as if it might float away any minute…

Gorgeous guitar, and probably sounds equal to its looks!

Are the general specifications and size based on any of the typical Martin offerings?

Thanks!

Size wise compared to Martins,.. the How appears to be wider in the bottom bout than a Martin "0". And the How is ladder braced, I'm not aware of any LB Martins.

I have played a number of John’s ladder-braced wonders. They are special guitars. Congrats!
Best,
Jayne
