Default To Guild Jumbo owner regarding pickguard.

Have anyone try to put on Gibson J200 pickguard onto Guild Jumbo guitar?I have F50 blonde and GAD JF 30 Blonde and thinking that J200 pickguard looks cool, wondering if it fit well on Guild Jumbo.I would like to know if it fit before heading to ebay to get one.Thank you in advance.

Stone the blasphemer !!!

If the pick guard has been on there a long time, you might uncover "tan lines" that a different shaped pick guard would not cover.

Both of them are 2007.I think they should be no problem regarding the "tan lines".I'm just not sure for the size and sound hole curve if it will be the same as J200.

Jimmy, I haven't put a J-200 pickguard on a Guild jumbo, but did put a Gibson factory stock J-45 firestripe pickguard I'd been given on a Guild GAD-JF30 jumbo that I own.

The guitar was used when I got it, and had clear pickguards on it, not only in the normal treble side position but also on the bass side, and two sheets of the same clear material were also on the back. I loathe clear pickguards even when they're "mono," and having two of them in "stereo" was worse. But having them in "quadraphonic" was entirely unacceptable.

So those came off and didn't go to a good home, but went in the trash, where they belonged.

ANYhow, once I corrected that situation, I put that one solitary J-45 firestripe pickguard in the normal treble side pickguard position, and it looks as those it was intended for that guitar all along. You expressed some concern about whether the curvature of a Gibson pickguard would fit the curvature of a Guild rosette: I can't tell you how a Gibson J-200 pickguard will fit your Guild jumbo, but the Gibson J-45 pickguard fit my Guild jumbo just fine.

Hope this helps.

Why do you want to make your Guild look like a Gibson?

I can't imagine how it looks when you put J45 pickguard on JF30.

Since I own 2 very similar Guild Jumbo.I would like to make them a little different. My plan is to change JF30 pickguard to J200 and keep F-50 the way it is.Also I think J200 pickguard that I see on ebay is beautiful. If it fit my JF-30 then it will be great.

Hi Jimmyboy,

I have a 94 Gibson J100 Xtra, as well as a Guild Jumbo JV52. The J100 is the plain Mahogany version of the J200, and has the same size pickguard, although plain. My JV52 is pretty much the same size as your F-50, so I took a template of the J-100 pickguard and super-imposed it on my Guild, and found that it virtually covered all the Guild`s pickguard, except for two small area`s. One at the front bottom, and a small area, at the side by the bridge. Apart from that I thought the shape looked great on the Guild.

I have taken a photo, and will post it for you later to see the result. I would have been tempted to do the same on my Guild except, on my JV52 the guard is under the finish!!

Steve.

This. Guild's have very distinctive pickguards, I think they're the best looking pg's in the business. Why don't you put a black Guild pg on one & a tortoise Guild pg on the other? That would make them look different while still looking like Guilds. Putting what is immediately recognizable as a Gibson pg on a Guild (or vice versa) just doesn't make any sense at all to me. Of course we all have different tastes...

Here you go Jimmyboy, what do you think?

Guild JV52 with Gibson J100/200 pickguard template. Notice where it doesn`t cover the Guild pickguard.

I must have something wrong with me as I like the White!

And here are the two guitars side by side.

Hope this helps.

Steve.

That's exactly what my plan is.I will leave my F-50 alone and work on my GAD JF-30 with this cheap pickguard.

Nope.

It's the shape of that second pickguard, but it's got the firestripe pattern to it, like the one in this larger-than-life photo:

From a visual standpoint it's actually very striking on that particular guitar, which has all blond wood, ebony fretboard and bridge, and Indian rosewood body binding. The colors in the pickguard tie in nicely with the binding.

Hope this helps.

No, I meant if your F50 has a black pg get a Guild tortoise pg for the other Guild. Here's one http://www.guitarpartsresource.com/p...s_acoustic.htm (005-9123-000) that I have on my JF-48. Like I said, it's your guitar but my view is: If you want a guitar that looks like a Gibson, get a Gibson.
