Jacques Stotzem
With a lot of vids on You Tube, definitely worth checking out Jacques Stotzem:

I have all his albums. He is one of my favs! And he is one of the few guys that uses picks. Thumb, index and middle.. Like a banjo player.

Gotta say I really like his sensibility. Nothing ponderous about his stuff...or show off. He has a popular impulse that trusts in a wider shared sense of "beautiful" and "really good" that a regular guy/gal listener would appreciate. One of my heroes who had this was/is Tommy Tedesco who did his "fingerstyle" (not fingerstyle at all) with just a flatpick and on nylon. This vid also seems to capture that sensibility: Last edited by Guest 429; 05-15-2014 at 05:33 AM. |

Per his website, he plays his Martin OMC Jacques Stotzem signature and uses Martin MSP3000. Interestingly enough, D'Addario also has him down for the EXP PB extra lights.

I enjoy his playing, but he also seems like a pretty decent guy. I once sent him an email asking about a particular piece I'd heard him play. He not only responded to my query, but he sent me the tabs for the piece as well. I thought that was pretty nice of him.

I'm surprised he can get a good tone from extra light gauge strings and fingerpicks.

I am sure that I still have a CD around here from Fingerstyle Guitar magazine...dating back to the 90's... which had his song Two Bridges which was the first song of his that I had heard. I really liked his composition and technique on that song...and others.

He is one of my favorites, too. I just learned "Picking in Paris", and I recommend it as a lot of fun to play and not too difficult either. "Swing Medley" is also fun, but at 6.5 min at tempo it can be a little long.
