I have been using sponges from the dollar store and empty plastic containers that blueberries (yep New Jersey) come in for years. No cracks. I have old fashion hot water radiators for heat.
My recipe: Saturate the sponge with water. Wring it out so that it doesn't drip. Put the container (moist sponge inside)in the case (the headstock area for acoustic cases).
