I have been using sponges from the dollar store and empty plastic containers that blueberries (yep New Jersey) come in for years. No cracks. I have old fashion hot water radiators for heat.

My recipe:
Saturate the sponge with water. Wring it out so that it doesn't drip. Put the container (moist sponge inside)in the case (the headstock area for acoustic cases). Check the sponge twice a week. Resaturate and wring outh the sponge if it's dry.
