Strange How Things Turn Out....
Planned that custom GS for months - figured sapele top, back and sides. Got it in July, posted pictures, was the envy of all...
then I realized that the GS size just wasn't comfortable for me. My GAs and OM always felt the best to me. I came to realize that this had been a project that was all about vanity. I had also ignored my first instinct to get a good working man's instrument ( a workhorse, not a showhorse). So I sold the custom GS, and got a stock GC7 - I couldn't be happier with it! I can't put it down - my other guitars are getting jealous! I've owned quite a few rosewood guitars (mostly larger), but I sold them all, because they all sounded the same. I did own a Martin Clapton model for a while. It sounded great, but I couldn't deal with that vintage style neck. This GC7 sounds so rich and full, especially with the cedar top. I think that rosewood really shines in a smaller guitar, which is probably why it became the wood of choice. Luthiers just followed through with the larger bodies later, but I'm not so sure that it was the best way to go. Anyway, I'm rambling here... just wanted to add yet another testimony about a very versatile Taylor GC7 that works so well for this strumming fool!

totally agree with you on the GC7. I've played the whole GC series and kept coming back to the cedar/rosewood combo. And I found the GC size to complement my playing very much.
The GC7 rocks IMO! daryl |

7 Series Rosewood...
still sound the best to me of all the rosewood Taylors I've played. I know that it's not top-of-the-line as far as the conventional thinking on aesthetics, but I think that the wider grain (which is quite striking IMO) seems to yield a warm, full sound that's not as tight as its 8 and 9 series counterparts.
Just an observation....

I know exactly how you feel about your GC...AND about "showhorses."
I was lucky enough to be able to grab a Limited GC Brazilian/Adirondack at the beginning of the month. It is so gorgeous both in sound and looks that I'm reluctant to even let anyone touch it. So far, I haven't let it out of the house. It's almost as if I feel I need one to play and another one to keep pristine in the case. Someone needs to tackle me before I go out and get another. I often wish I could feel like "it's just an instrument...play it!" Anyway, the point being, the GC is a wonderful guitar. st |

I actually sold it back to Martin Music when I ordered the GC7. It's still there as far as I know. Eric Martin can be reached at 901.757.9020. Good Luck!

I was in Martin Music twice this week and have bought three Taylors from Eric.
He's an outstanding dealer by the way. Which Custom GS was yours? I probably looked at it... st |

Regarding your reluctance to take your braz GC out of the house, I do understand. But after 11 years, my beloved Cujo14 has sustained a few tiny dings, but has created so many good memories by being a guitar meant to be played often! Break her in , my friend!

Yeah, that GS of his was just gorgeous. My dream guitar came from Martin Music as well. I'm blessed to live close so I just kept going in and playing guitars every few weeks over a long period of time. Eventually, I found my monster.

Apparently, a number of us chew the same dirt back in the acoustic room at
Eric's. He always has some magnificent creations. USB, the R.Taylor madagascar/sinker you played a while back is still there, gently calling your name... st |

I played the standard line GC7 and GC8 today. Very nice sounding guitars . The GC8 I played had a little more open sounding oomph but the 7 was sweet as well. I played another GC8 in a store halfway across the country this week and it was identical in tone. Me likey much. I'll bet those GC limiteds are even better!

haha - I'll bet it is! It was a fantastic instrument. I'm just gonna continue to ignore it though because the Taylor I ended up getting (sinker/braz GA) 1up'd it ( and pretty much everything else I ever played) in terms of tone.

Unfortunately, my PC crashed a few weeks ago, and I lost my photo files (no, they're not in my camera - I didn't take the shots). I've encouraged Eric Martin to place them on his website today. Hopefully he will....
