I just wish the original designer had been a fingerstyle player. the string spacing is 2 3/16 I believe on all of the guitars. Which is too narrow for me when paired with 1 3/4 nut width. I enjoyed the one I bought, but the string spacing was just too narrow. So I sold it. They are a great choice if the string spacing works, however.

I guess you just can't build for everyone. This is from Voyage Air's publicity release back in 2010 or 2011 "Harvey used this experience to design two different models for Voyage-Air Guitar: a comfortable and fingerstyle-friendly OM-style guitar, ...". I'm a finger-style, flat-picking, strumming player and don't have any issue with the 2.25" string spacing on mine. The "original designer" is one of the world's preeminent guitar builders and inlay specialists. Some of his guitars sell for over $100,000. Some of his Martin inlay guitars sell for many times that. That said, I've known Harvey about 15 years but I can't speak to what he plays. You could ask him, he's a member here.

From fold who have owned Voyage Air guitars, did you need to get yours set up or did they come pretty much ready to go? Was the action decently low?

Thanks!!!
Congratulations. I'm sure you will love it.

Thanks for the great background story and the pictures! As yours is all solid, do you use a humidifier?

Every guitar I have is cased and properly humidified. I keep some out as I'm working on something all the time. This keeps them constant. When I'm on the road like 2 months in the South Pacific where the humidity was higher, and then back in Arizona for 2 months, where it's not, it keeps the guitars stable. When I'm in L.A. not so much but their still monitored. When I'm home I keep the VA in an OM hard-shell case. I use the backpack when traveling.

Got the guitar the other day and it's pretty freaking awesome! Folds and unfolds super easy, and it feels and plays great! Action feels spot on. Pretty sure it comes with 12's so at some point soon I am going to swap out for 11's, which I'm used to. Not sure if that will warrant a truss rod adjustment or anything but only one way to find out

Congrats! Glad to hear that you're enjoying your new Voyage Air! However, there are those who may claim it didn't happen without photos.

When Harvey Leach (the inventor/developer of the Voyage-aire) first started having them manufactured, he sent some out to members of a guitar discussion group he was active in (RMMGA). I was fortunate to have one for a couple of weeks, and I found it outstanding.

I don’t recall the model designation, but it was an all-solid wood OM, Sitka over hog. The fit and finish was very nice, comparing well with my Martin OM-16GT. In fact, I preferred the sound and feel of the Voyage-aire to the Martin. I don’t recall the term for the backpack sized case, but that was what it came with. A big plus was that when the guitar was unfolded and reassembled (restored to its proper shape, whatever) it was usually in nearly correct tune, just requiring the usual tuning touch ups that any of my other guitars would need after being transported.

At the time, the Martin was still rather new, and I wasn’t really in the market for another guitar, so I didn’t jump on it, but the voyage-aire was a really fine instrument, and certainly a fine solution to traveling problems.

Haha I actually just dropped it off with the luthier/guitar tech in town to check out and set up. Probably didn't need it but I was heading there anyways so why not. Definitely can post some pictures of the Voyage Air as well as comparison pictures next to my Journey Overhead +.
